I suddenly felt nostalgic while I was browsing my photo library earlier to sort out my photos. Up to this day, I still can't believe I was able to visit one of the loveliest place in the world–Macau. This is probably one of the places I'd go back to if given a chance. Macau is the second place I've traveled to this year next to Hong Kong and it is just the bomb! It's like a 2-in-1 travel spot because the atmosphere is just like being in Venice, Italy with a lil' touch of Vegas.
Anyway, here are 5 important things I realized while traveling at a young age:
- Learning to be alone with myself. Being in a place where my own language were the only words I can understand made me learn how to love myself, how to handle myself, how to listen to my body and what it needs and what I needed to carry with me to give it that. What comforts me and what makes me feel alive. I learned who I am once I leave the only contexts I once understood myself in.
- Realizing that my comfort zone is only an illusion. It’s really not a matter of going outside it; it’s realizing it was only in my head to begin with.
- That it’s more important to appreciate the things I can’t instagram. There are some things (a lot of things, actually) that photos won’t do justice. More importantly, I don’t do myself justice when I see my entire trip through an iPhone screen. I eventually have to stop trying to preserve and eternalize things, stop trying to show them off to other people, and just let what I see serve little purpose other than to be admired.
- It’s okay to be lost. Trust me, getting lost in a new place will help you find yourself.
- Being alone is okay. This is where I learned that being alone is not the end of the world. It was a time where I got to know myself, I got to explore a city, I read, I learned. In the end, I became in fact very attached with my alone time — an inseparable bond was formed.
