Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro

New year is the perfect time to visit South America as many countries celebrate new year’s eve in a big way. However, there is no bigger party on the continent than the one the is annually held on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach. What better way to end the year than with a cool beach party?! Around two million people gather on the beach each new year to celebrate. So it’s a good idea to get there early so you can get a good spot to see the fireworks from!

Sydney, Australia

If you want to see an awesome fireworks display, then head over to Sydney to ring in the new year. All of the celebrations take place in the famous Sydney Harbour, where up to a million people gather every year. The fireworks all shoot off from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and fill the skies with fantastic colors! This is one of the longest firework displays at new year’s eve, and it usually lasts for around twelve minutes. Don’t worry about getting cold when you are stood waiting for the show - it’s currently summerdown under!

New York, America

The Big Apple is also famous for its exciting new year’s eve celebrations. Just like Sydney in Australia, new year in New York also features a huge firework display. Times Square turns into a large outdoor party venue for the evening and crowds of people crowd into the square to get in on the action. This annual party has been going since 1904 and is thought to be one of the oldest public events for new year’s eve that is still running. When you are there, make sure you have your smartphone ready with its video. You will certainly want to catch a video of the famous new year’s eve ball drop as the 60-second countdown begins!

Edinburgh, Scotland

Another hugely popular public event for new year’s eve is Hogmanay in Edinburgh. This huge event takes place throughout the entire city center, and there are various stages where you will be able to watch famous bands and singers wow the crowds! If you want a good spot to watch the fireworks from, make sure you get onto Carton Hill before midnight! That is the spot where all the locals head to.
