As
an independent adult, you’re getting to the point that you need to know how to
cook. Cooking is one of those disciplines that can be a chore when you first
start. It can occasionally come with some disastrous results, as well. But the
more you do it, the easier and more fun it came before. You can even help it
along a bit with the right advice. So here it is.
Keep learning new recipes
As we said, the first thing that you need to do is start doing it.
Not only by cooking the same few foods over and over again. You start getting
used to the motions and getting more comfortable with ingredients the more
recipes you learn. So put together a list of meals you needto learn to cook. Work through them and develop skills and knowledge
that can help you become a bit more adventurous.
Use better tools
A new cook will always have the same problem. They’re not getting
the results they want because they don’t have the tools they need. First, you
need to make sure you have all the basics. Chopping boards. Whisks. Different
kinds of bowls. The tools used to measure ingredients. Then, to make cooking
take a lot less time, start dabbling in the more specific tools. Things like Borner products that can help you
slice and dice a lot quicker.
Tidy up the kitchen
No-one likes a messy kitchen. Not only is it unpleasant, but it
can add a lot of time to your meal preparation. If you’re in a cluttered,
unorganized kitchen, it can be a lot harder to find the stuff you need. So make
your kitchen fit to purpose. Put up a spice rack. Clean as you cook. Create an orderly kitchen so that cooking
in it is a breeze.
Buy ingredients in bulk
One of the biggest hassles involved in cooking is sourcing the
ingredients. Doing a daily shop to pick up bits and bobs can get tiring when
you need different stuff every day. So instead of winging it, try planning it. Put together all
the recipes for the meals you want to make that week. Then buy the ingredients
for all of them at once. For fresh meat and veg, sometimes you need to split
that shopping trip into two, of course.
Cook snacks instead of buying them
If you’re serious about learning to cook well and without fuss,
take it beyond your dinner. Stop relying on processed food almost entirely.
Instead of buying lunches and snacks, cook them yourself. Get yourself
ingrained with the knowledge of how to make your own snacks, like sweet potato
fries. Not only does your own cooking taste a lot better, it also saves you a
lot of money. What could be any less hassle than having more money?
Keep following the tips above and you should find yourself
becoming a bit of an adept at it before long. You might even develop that
‘signature dish’ that you can woo some of the opposite sex with.
