There is a lot up in the air about Brexit right now. Let me phrase that, everything is up in the air about Brexit right now. Theresa May’s plans for the Uk are starting to slip through, but we are basically being kept out of the loop. If you’re a keen traveller like me, you might be wondering how Brexit will affect your vacation plans. So, let’s break it down.
Ouch, Heavier Costs!
You can bet Brexit is going to mean heavier costs for travellers. Particularly, in the short term since the pound has fallen against both the Euro and the Dollar. There’s every chance it will recover once a deal with the EU and the UK has been finalised. However, as it becomes frighteningly clear we won’t be part of the single market, we might need to deal with the fact the pound will stay low for a while.
Uh Oh, Longer Wait Times
You might have noticed when travelling to Europe from the UK that you don’t get stuck at customs. Generally speaking, you won’t be asked why you’re travelling and won’t need to fill in a visa. That will change with Brexit because we won’t be part of the EU. As such, you can expect travelling to be just as fun as journeying to America. In short, it will take at least an hour to get through customs control.
Oh Dear, More Paperwork
Yes, we’ll need visas to travel to the EU, and we may even be held to the new ETIAS proposed system. You can read more about that in the infographic below. Generally speaking, Brexit won’t stop travel to the EU from Britain, but it will make it harder and more expensive.
