Skiing can be one of the most thrilling and adrenaline-filled sports out there. There’s nothing quite like a day on the slopes, doing some kickass runs and honing your skills. However, whether you’re just starting out or you’re a seasoned skier, there are a few things you should do before and after your ski. It’s all too easy to ignore after advice, but you’ll regret it later on! You can end up with aching muscles you didn’t even know existed, sore lips, and sunburn in very strange places. Here’s what you should do:

Train Beforehand

It’s a good idea to train before your ski trip. Assuming you booked your trip in advance, you should have plenty of time to train and get a little fitter in preparation. Working on your leg muscles as well as your cardio fitness should help you to get the most out of your ski trip. Skiing will make you work muscles in your body you didn’t know existed. Some people say that a full day of skiing is like holding a squat for hours! Training beforehand should help you to grasp skiing quicker, and feel better afterwards.

Apply Sunscreen Everywhere

Apply sunscreen to every exposed area on your body, even areas you wouldn’t usually take care of if you were in a hot location. For instance, sunburn inside of your ears isn’t uncommon on a ski trip! Apply it to any exposed area to avoid sore sunburn.

Don’t Neglect Your Lips

Dry, cracked lips can be very sore, so don’t forget a high-quality lip balm to keep them soft and supple during your trip. With the wind whipping at your face and the snow reflecting the sun at you from all angles, you really need to protect yourself.

Wear Goggles

Sunglasses are cool and can look good as you ski, but they can still leave you with red, sore eyes. Wear goggles instead to stop your eyes from drying out and the skin around your eyes feeling sore. If you usually take part in outdoor activities, you should know how important the right gear is!

Take A Long Hot Bath With Epsom Salts

A long, hot bath full of Epsom salts should help to soothe sore muscles. Believe me, you’re going to want to do this to help relax the muscles in your legs! Spend at least 20 minutes in there to minimize aches and pains.

Keep Hunger At Bay

Skiing all day is hungry work - it’s a hardcore workout! Some people can’t tear themselves away from the slopes to get food, and don’t want to feel weighed down by food as they ski. If you’re one of those people, energy gels are perfect for you. However, you should make sure you take advantage of the gourmet dining at your lodge afterwards. You’ve earned it!

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated all day long, before and after your ski is crucial. Do you want to cramp up on the slopes? Electrolytes will need to be replenished, so you should drink special water or sports drinks to keep you going, especially if you’re going to be skiing for hours on end.

Above all else, have a great day!
