8 REASONS SOUTH AFRICA IS THE PERFECT ACTION-PACKED HOLIDAY DESTINATION

In recent years South Africa has arguably become a thrill seeker’s paradise. With vastly varied terrain and stunning coastlines, there are so many fantastic activities to get stuck into; you’ll have to keep going back again and again. Here are just a few adventures adrenaline junkies can expect to find in South Africa.

Ride an ostrich

I’m not even joking, if you’re lucky enough to weigh under 65kg, the good people at the Cango Ostrich Farm will literally let you hop on board and go for a run around. They’ll also happily teach you about how they’re raised, and give you some time to get to know the residents.

Go ziplining in the rainforest

South Africa Canopy Tours offer rooftop ziplining throughout the country. If you’re a proper thrillseeker, try the Karkloof canopy tour near Durban for the ride of your life.

Hike up Table Mountain

If climbing huge hills is how you get your kicks, Table Mountain will be right up your street. Although there are some straightforward routes available for hikers, some recommended routes involve steep scrambles and heart-stopping drops to the ocean. http://hiketablemountain.co.za/

Take a conservation course

If you’re a friend to the animals and have a couple of weeks to spare, then one of the wildlife conservation courses in the area might be right up your street. Choose whether you want game ranger experience, or if you want to help protect endangered rhinos or learn more about predators. South Africa’s rich wildlife is under threat, so a course is a great place to start to help.

Kayak with crocs

If you’re particularly brave, why not give kayaking in crocodile and hippopotamus infested waters a go? It’s just you, a little fiberglass boat, and some hungry crocodiles for company.

Get down in the caves

If you’re not a massive fan of crocodiles, heading underground through South Africa’s vast cave network might be more your cup of tea. The Cango Caves have attracted visitors for centuries, and once you’re down there, it’s not difficult to see why. There’s a beginner walking tour available, which is beautiful but not likely to get the heart pumping. If you want to really test yourself the adventure tour has narrow crawl spaces and long drops for you to enjoy.

Meet great white sharks

This one is certainly not for the faint hearted, although you don’t need to be a qualified diver to get involved. They literally put you in a cage, fill the water with chum to attract these colossal beasts, and you get the privilege of watch them swimming around you only an arm’s length away.

Relax on the beach

After all this adventure, you can relax on one of South Africa’s countless idyllic beaches, paddle in the clear waters, and sip cocktails before your flight home. You’ll need it to get your heart rate to return to normal!

If you’re a fan of adrenaline-fueled holiday and death-defying activities, give South Africa a go. You won’t be disappointed.
