North America is rightly regarded as one of the most exciting places on earth to visit. Here you have nature, wildlife, thriving cities, some of the world’s greatest cultural institutions and iconic pop culture hot spots. It’s also absolutely massive, so it’s difficult to do most of - or even a handful - of what North America has to offer in a single trip. But what if you could defy time and space and do it all in a week or two? It’s a nice idea, so we put together a selection of highlights that would make up a trip to North America if only physics would allow it.
King of the World
The Big Apple isn’t a starting point for the United States or North America: it is a starting point for the world. This is a city that has led the world in just about every sphere we care to measure, from fashion to food to art and beyond. It’s big in itself, but many of the highlights are conveniently compressed into Manhattan. There you have Central Park, Times Square, Chinatown, Little Italy, Wall Street, and the city’s hippest districts - Greenwich Village and East Village.
Canada’s Hottest City
The best of Vancouver is really the best of North America, because in many the west coast city acts as a microcosm of the continent as a whole. It is bustling, cosmopolitan, cultural, and beautiful all rolled into one. It is the latter that really makes Vancouver stand out as Canada’s most sought after travel destination. Located right on the Pacific Ocean, you have the beautiful ocean in one direction and mountains in another. Visit during the summer or winter; it doesn’t matter - you’ll be active either way, either hiking or biking in the summer and skiing in the winter!
Laid Back Coast Life
New York City might be the place that dictates the rest of America, but California is where it all comes together. Laid back and cool, it offers its visitors just about everything it could want from a trip to the States. You can go stargazing in Los Angeles, skiing in Lake Tahoe, hiking in Yosemite, surfing in San Diego, and culture hopping in San Francisco. In among all these places is a coastline that is to die for and a spirit that is beyond description. Needless to say, it’s impossible to be bored here!
The Far North
Alaska is far and away the largest states in the United States, and covers a gigantic portion of North America as a whole. It encapsulates a lot of what this region is and used to be: a wild terrain, where nothing is quite settled. In Alaska you’ll find anything and everything, from unusually normal cities to small fishing communities and then massive regions of unparalleled natural beauty. The highlight is Denali National Park, which is home to the mountain of the same name - the highest peak in North America - and Prince William Sound, where you can kayak amongst icebergs for a once in a lifetime experience.
