Expert Tips to Stress-Free Packing

While taking the stress out of packing seems like an impossible dream, there are, in fact, many ways to make the process a lot easier. Where it was once tedious and chaotic, it can now become organised and efficient - but only as long as you’re able to follow these simple tips.

If you’re also in the process of packing up and moving to a new home, you’ve definitely come to the right place. Here is a handful of excellent packing tips so that you can make sure that nobody loses anything in the process, and so that everything seems a lot simpler.

It just makes it a lot easier to look forward to the big day of the move while slowly packing up every bit around the house.

While the actual packing doesn’t really have to start before you have a week or so left until that van pulls up in your driveway, you should still start with all of those other boring things. Moving your utility services, for example, is a good idea to get over with right away.

As long as you let them know when you’d like to do the transfer, you can feel a bit more comfortable as you settle into your new home, knowing that everything is taken care of.

Remember to notify the postal service about your new address as well, by the way, and keep in mind that although it’s not the end of the world if you forget, it’s just one of those things that are nice to get out of the way.

The trick, in general, to stress-free packing is to start as early as possible and avoid the procrastination. The longer you put these boring phone calls, or simple clicks on the computer off, the more stress you’re building up in your mind. Do it right now, in other words, and you’ll be so much happier with yourself later.

Starting sooner rather than later is also in terms of packing, though, but only if you like many others also have a house filled with both useful and useless stuff.

In everybody’s home, there will be a few things we use regularly and other things that are merely for show or just used occasionally; get the latter out of the way a week or so before you’re going to leave, and the rest won’t seem as overwhelming to pack.

Keep in mind that you can always give some of it away if it all seems like too much to pack and fill up your new home with. That way, you’ll have a much cleaner slate to start out with in your new home and can decorate it with whatever you please.

Minimalism has been in for a while now, you know, and their logic is the same as we’re featuring in this article; stuff stresses you out, so get rid of it or pack it as soon as you’re able to.

One of the best ways to keep track of everything while you’re packing your way through your home is to write an inventory list. Keep it according to each room, and let your kids do the same if they’re in charge of packing down their own stuff.

It will help a lot in terms of not only finding everything once you’re ready to unpack - but also if somebody should be worried that they left something behind.

Another major plus to this method is that it gets your mind a bit more organised as well. Packing and moving is, as you very well know, a stressful procedure where many of us feel slightly overwhelmed and snappy with the rest of the household.

An inventory list gives you that peace of mind you’ve been looking for gives you some guidance when everything is chaos, and a good indicator of how much you actually have left. You can have a look at this article if you need even more tips on how to stay organised while packing, by the way.

Also, a lot of packing experts advise you to use colour codes or numbers, if your head works better with that, to keep track of your boxes. This might be a good idea but it’s not necessary if you work well with just an inventory list. If you choose to do both, you could use those colour codes on the list as well to make everything super organised. Like, they should give you a medal or something.

Finally, nobody is more miserable when packing and moving than those who need to do it all by themselves. Asking for help doesn’t have to be throughout the packing process, though, but if you’re moving interstate, you will certainly need the help of some professionals.

When you choose the right company, they won’t simply chuck your stuff into their van and roll off but will even help you to pack, load everything carefully, and unload your stuff once you’ve finally arrived at your new home. The better the company, the better the service, in other words, to steer clear of those students looking to make some extra money on the side.

You could always help those students out, though, if you’re not moving interstate and don’t have a load of large and valuable furniture. Consider your situation and choose whatever your budget allows you to.

Now you should be ready to get into your car and roll off to your new home. Just remember to pack a box of essentials, though, to keep with you during the ride so that you have what you need as soon as you arrive. It’s the best tip to stress-free packing and moving, in general.
